THE KHOISAN/ COLOUREDS HAVE TWO CHOICES IN 2017:
1. TO BE DECIMATED IN EVERY WAY INCLUDING OUR RIGHT TO LIFE, UNDER THE PRESENT NATIONAL AND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENTS OR
2. TO GOVERN OURSELVES ACCORDING TO OUR HISTORY, CULTURAL VALUES AND LANGUAGES
Herewith follows a letter submitted to us by a listener who wishes to stay anonymous. Please be advised that the views expressed are not those of RKPfm. Full disclaimer can be found at the end of this article.
DO YOU WANT THE WESTERN CAPE TO BE INDEPENDENT?
YES OR NO?
We wish to state categorically that we respect the right of fellow citizens to practise and promote their cultures. By the same logic we demand the right for ourselves.
We further believe that foisting the culture of the one onto another creates conditions for conflict and disharmony.
It is when people govern themselves independently and in accordance with their HISTORY, CULTURE, LANGUAGE, that the conditions for good neighbourliness, social cohesion and harmony are created in which democracy triumphs.
We are petitioning the DA & Provincial Government to execute and pay for a Referendum in the Cape Province and in the terms of Section 235 of the Constitution of South Africa (Act No 108 of 1996)
The YES or NO referendum will be voted for on the following question:
DO YOU WANT THE WESTERN CAPE TO BE INDEPENDENT?
The targeted voters will be those classified Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan and will be open to all such classified citizens in the entire country & all nine provinces. Postal votes would be allowed.
We believe that such a demand is in line with international law that endorses the right of selfdetermination and independence of people under conditions of colonial rule and foreign occupation.
Since the new national state (with the active collaboration of the provincial government):
has been discriminating against Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan people for the past 23 years;
has never in its entire history defined the people living within the borders of the Republic of South Africa as an indivisible nation; and cannot be trusted or is competent to draft legislation for the independence of the Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan people,
We demand that the DA & Provincial Government in its capacity as the servant of the will of the citizens in the Western Province, facilitate the process for the legal and constitutional independence of the Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan people.
BELOW ARE THE BROAD BASES FOR THE DEMAND FOR INDEPENDENCE AND FOR WHICH AMPLE EVIDENCE WILL BE DULY SUPPLIED IN EACH CASE:
1.1 The history of the Cape has a fundamentally different trajectory from the rest of the country
1.2 The struggle and resistance against Dutch and then British Colonialism is unique to the Cape in objectives and methods
1.3 The struggle against Apartheid was briefly (1950s’ to 1980s’) executed in alliance and in common with those classified White and African; but this common struggle for freedom ceased in 1994.
1.4 From the lived experience and perspectives of the Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan people, the present governments are seen as neo-colonial and foreign powers of a special kind.
2. CULTURAL VALUES The cultural traditions and values of those classified Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan have been marginalised at best and trampled under at worst, in the post 1994 period as demonstrated in:
2.1 Labour Laws
2.2 Other laws
3. LANGUAGE The languages of the people of the Cape are not acknowledged by neither national nor provincial government, in theory & practice:
3.1 Afrikaans is relegated incorrectly as a language of oppression
3.2 Afrikaaps is not acknowledged constitutionally at all
3.3 Khoi/ Khoe is only acknowledged in theory and as a sop
3.4 Pupils and students do not have the right to be taught by and in mother-tongue
4. OTHER Certain things are allowed and encouraged by the national and provincial governments and escalate at the cost of the Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan people. These include:
4.1 Migration – legal and illegal
4.2 National & provincial governance exclude Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan disproportionately
4.3 National and provincial governance is based on racial demographics that see Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan as a distinct racial minority
4.4 Gangs, drugs and other social evils are disproportionately ranged against Coloured/ Kleurling/ Khoisan.
We have collected sufficient signatures for the demand for the REFERENDUM FOR INDEPENDENCE that are comparable to the numbers in the polls in all national/ provincial elections held since 1994.
BUT an online referendum will be held simultaneously with the physical referendum that must be executed by the DA and Provincial Government.
